Summary
[edit]DescriptionCity Lights promo still.jpg |
English: Promotional photograph for Charlie Chaplin's 1931 film City Lights, depicting Chaplin as the Tramp and his co-star Virginia Cherrill as the Blind Flower Girl. |
Date |
English: The still is taken from the first scene with the blind flower girl, which was first shot sometime between December 27, 1928, and April 1929, then reshot in late 1929. This image is most likely from the later reshoots. This promotional copy was created on January 2, 1931, and the film itself was released in January 30, 1931. |
Source |
English: Immediate source of this scan is via Heritage Auctions (HA.com) (direct link to original jpg). The scanned copy was created by Culver Pictures, Inc. in New York and is claimed to be "Type 1", i.e. it was developed from the original negative. The image was cropped from original and retouched by uploader to reduce scratches/smudges/other damage, etc.—the unretouched original version can be found in upload history below. |
Author |
English: Still from City Lights, produced by the film studio United Artists. |
Permission (Reusing this file) |
English: No permission is required.
Keep in mind that the pre-1989 requirements for copyright notice were highly formalistic and, other than a few enumerated exceptions, required these three elements:

Licensing
[edit]This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. ![]() |
